➧ GRESLEY➧DAY➧1➧FOR➧‘GB’➧ A change-round means the Railway Touring Company’s multi-day ‘Great Britain’ will now begin on April 29 with a pair of Gresley ‘Pacifics’. The first day will feature Flying Scotsman on the leg from King’s Cross to York, where it will hand over to Union of South Africa for the run to Edinburgh. ➧ ‘BRit’➧BAck➧At➧2017➧END Britannia is not expected to return to the main line until the latter half of 2017. The ‘Standard’ has been sidelined for replacement of two coupled-wheel axles following problems in 2015 (SR448) - and spokesman Peter Greenwood says all bearings on the locomotive will now be replaced. ➧ kEAY➧REtiRES➧FROm➧HmRi After more than 20 years at Her Majesty’s Railway Inspectorate, former Deputy Chief Inspector David Keay has retired - but will continue to be involved with main line steam. Engineer Mr Keay is to take up roles with both Jeremy Hosking’s Locomotive Services Ltd and at Tyseley, where he is becoming a director.
