With passenger figures up 4% on the previous year, there has been plenty to celebrate at the Talyllyn Railway. The 2ft 3in gauge line reports that over 45,000 people have travelled on the railway over the last 12 months, “the highest number for several years.” The news follows a successful Santa season, with bookings over 60% up on 2015, and two extra trains having to be added to cope. Talyllyn Railway General Manager Tracey Parkinson says: “This is most encouraging, and is the result of some new marketing initiatives which we intend to develop in the coming years. “The timetable for this year includes a significant number of extra trains to cope with the anticipated increase in traffic.”
