Both the North Norfolk and Churnet Valley Railways experienced a poor summer in 2016 - but their figures were bolstered at other times of the year. At Sheringham, Marketing and PR Manager Trevor Eady said that the line “did not have a great July or August”, but: “The ‘shoulders’ of the season were really good, particularly September and October, resulting in a final figure of 165,848 - just 60 fewer than the record in 2015.” In contrast, CVR Operating Manager Greg Wilson said that the first six months of the year saw “a very good increase, not in numbers but journeys made, which were 8,000 up - but July and August were poor.” However, he added: “The ‘Santa Specials’ were better, with passenger numbers up as well as revenue, driven by a £1 fare increase.”
