‘Greyhound’ races to Buckinghamshire
Cornwall won’t be the only National Collection locomotive to visit the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre this year, as it has been announced that ‘T9’ No. 30120 will be the special guest engine at the BRC’s Spring Steam Gala on April 30/May 1. Normally based at the Bodmin & Wenford Railway, the Drummond 4-4-0 has spent the winter at the Battlefield Line, hauling the line’s Santa services. The ‘Greyhound’s’ presence at Quainton Road should bring the number of engines up to seven, as the BRC hopes to have six of its own fleet in operation for the event. In addition to No. 30120, the BRC will field Metropolitan Railway ‘E’ class 0-4-4T No. 1, BR (W) ‘94XX’ No. 9466, Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST No. 699 Swanscombe, Hudswell Clarke 0-4-0ST No. 1742 Millom, Bagnall 0-4-0ST No. 2469 and Hunslet ‘Austerity’ 0-6-0ST No. 66. On the May Bank Holiday, a diesel shuttle link will run between Quainton Road and Aylesbury Town station, using a Class 121 ‘Bubble Car’ due for withdrawal at the end of May.
