Several important components will be made for LNWR ‘George V’ No. 2013 Prince George this year - including the first of two chimneys. Tenders are being sought for the coupling rods, which the LNWR George V Steam Locomotive Trust expects to be cut within the next two months. It is also looking forward to casting the bogie wheels, and rolling the boiler barrel - as well as producing the full-height chimney for preserved line use. Like Didcot ‘King’ No. 6023, the BowenCooke 4-4-0 will also have a cut-down chimney for main line running. Says trustee Paul Hibberd: “The original chimney even put the ‘Georges’ outside the Caledonian’s loading gauge, so the class never worked through to Glasgow.”
