Former and fu­ture Prime Min­is­ter Win­ston Churchill cham­pi­ons the con­cept of a union of Euro­pean na­tions dur­ing a speech at the Royal Al­bert Hall, be­fore the Ger­man pop­u­la­tion “turn their thoughts to re­volt and re­venge”. He adds that Bri­tain and France should take a lead role, and that the former would “have to play her full part as a mem­ber of the Euro­pean fam­ily”.
