40th anniversary reunion at Gwili
Volunteers from the Gwili Railway’s first operating season in 1978 are invited to a reunion to mark the 40th anniversary. A special dining train is planned on Sunday March 25, almost exactly 40 years to the day since Peckett 0‑4‑0ST Works No. 1967 ‘Merlin’ and a Class 100 DMU trailer formed the first preservation‑ era trains from Bronwydd Arms, at Easter 1978. Anyone who volunteered on the line that year can contact info@gwili‑railway.co.uk to receive their invitation. A series of events are planned to mark the anniversary, starting with ‘Gwili 40 – The Opening Act’ on March 30/31, with two steam locomotives and Class 03 diesel shunter No. D2178 in operation. The timetable may include a re‑creation of the early shuttles to Cwmdwyfran. The main celebration, ‘Gwili 40 – The Party’, takes place on June 9/10, and the traditional end of season gala on October 6 will be themed ‘Gwili 40 – The Finale’.
