IMPOSTER INSPIRATION

-

I have read the two articles by David Wilcock about John Wells’ escapades in the late ’50s. I knew of Dave Impey, as he was my grandfather’s (Dick Hollingsworth) fireman in the early ’50s. I was a frequent visitor to Hitchin shed to see ‘Pop’ and used to get rides on the ‘B1’ that he drove. He had been there since 1926, and hailed from Colwick. ‘Pop’ was once rostered to drive the Royal Train on October 18 1937, from Sandy to King’s Cross, presumably with the new monarch, King George VI and his family. Perhaps I was the spark that got Dave to help John at the later date!
