£15k to complete Colossus chassis
Planned Bassett-Lowke replica ‘Class 60’ Colossus needs £15,000 to complete its ‘rolling chassis’.
The news comes after the Gigantic Locomotive Company – which is building the replica 15in gauge 4-6-2 – launched an exhibition on the Bassett-Lowke locomotives at the Ravenglass Railway Museum (SR481).
GLC spokesman Jordan Leeds says: “If someone comes along tomorrow and writes us a cheque for £15k, orders for all the castings and major components would be placed the following day. That money would buy us the frames, driving, bogie and trailing wheels, cylinders, horn guides and axleboxes.” He added that a further £10,000 would be enough to complete the boiler “if we do it ourselves.”
Recent work has involved the front bogie and tender bogie frame plates cut and prepared for assembly alongside the bogie bolster. To donate towards the project, visit www.justgiving. com/crowdfunding/ giganticlocomotive
