Candidates for Forth and Endrick

- Gareth Jones

In the run-up to the council election on May 4 we will be publishing profiles of – and statements from – all the candidates in each of the seven seats.

This week it is the turn of the Forth and Endrick Ward, where seven candidates are battling for the three available seats.

The SNP and Conservatives are fielding two candidates apiece - while Labour and the Greens provide a single candidate, alongside an Independent candidate.

Following the recent Scottish Local Government Boundary review the number of councillors to be elected in Stirling Council area has increased by one to 23 across the seven multi-member wards.

Incumbent councillors Alistair Berrill (Conservatives) and the SNP’s Ian Muirhead and Graham Lambie are standing, alongside former MSP Richard Simpson(Labour) , Michael Marten (Greens), Evan McLean (Ind) and Rob Davies (Cons) in the battle for the seats.

Important issues highlighted by the hopefuls this week include communications, rural transport links, the need to support businesses in outlying areas and ensuring that Forth & Endrick benefits from the City Deal.

Polling takes place on Thursday, May 4 across all of Scotland’s 32 authorities, including Stirling.

Election results are expected to be announced around noon on Friday, May 5, with voter registration for the election having closed on Monday (April 17).
