Town set for festival

Callander is set for some special events following the launch of this year’s Summerfest.

In its fourth year, the Callander and Trossachs Summerfest will take place from July 15 to July 30. However, this years event will also see some events in June and also a performanc­e by Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham on August 17.

The community-led celebratio­n has events on each day of its July run, with children’s activities, workshops, art installati­ons and exhibition­s, dance, film, music, walks, cycle rides, family fun days and a vintage market.

More than 70 events are included at 15 venues all organised, and many performed, by local people, groups and businesses.

As a grand opening event, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra is playing at McLaren High School on Thursday June 8 at 7.30pm.

Their programme includes Grieg’s Holberg Suite, Crusell’s Clarinet Concerto, Larsson’s Pastoral Suite and Schubert’s Third Symphony.

McLaren High will also host Les Misérables from Wednesday June 20 until Friday 22.

The Summerfest brochure will be unmissable in the town. The bright pink booklet detailing events is available in a number of outlets.

Every Day from July 15 until July 29 Summerfest Box Office and exhibition­s will feature at St Kessog’s from 11am until 5pm as well as Art Installati­ons at Ancaster Square from 11am until 5pm and featured artists at Trossachs Mobility from 10am until 5pm.

Summerfest is organised by Callander Community Developmen­t Trust, Creative in Callander and Callander Youth Project Trust, with funding support from Callander Community Hydro Fund, Friends of Loch Lomond & the Trossachs and Stirling Council, and by private donations.

Anne Docherty, Secretary of Callander Community Developmen­t Trust and one of Summerfest’s main organisers, said: “Internatio­nal, national and local talent has been gathered for this year’s programme.
