- Hill race

To celebrate the recent British Hill Running Championsh­ip Stuc a Chroin 5000 Hill Race in Strathyre, youngsters from rural schools took part in their own running event.

Organised by Active Stirling in partnershi­p with Strathyre Outdoors, the first Stirling Primary Schools Hill race saw more than 50 pupils from seven primary schools Aberfoyle, Callander, Killin,Thornhill, Crianlaric­h, Doune and Strathyre - racing over a challengin­g course with a steep ascent at the beginning followed by a scenic descent through the forest.

The winner of the girls’ race was Doune Primary’s Emily Campbell followed by her schoolmate Rachael Dinwoodie with Lizzie Woods from Aberfoyle Primary in third. The boys’race saw Dan Sandals from Doune winning by a second from Callander’s Connor Stewart with Tom Campbell, also Callander, in third.

Claire Peebles, Active Stirling’s Active Schools co-ordinator, said:“A huge thanks to all the volunteers from the local community in Strathyre and members of the Stuc 5000 committee who helped on the day.

“A special thanks to May from the Munro Inn who provided sandwiches and refreshmen­ts for everyone after the race.”
