Scam fear over fake lot­tery let­ter

Po­lice are re­mind­ing peo­ple to be wary of fraud­sters af­ter a Brae­head res­i­dent was sent a sus­pi­cious let­ter.

A res­i­dent of Brae­head Road con­tacted the Ob­server to high­light con­cerns he had about a let­ter claim­ing to be from the Post­code Lot­tery and say­ing he had won £325,000.

Thomas Simp­son phoned the num­ber pro­vided but im­me­di­ately hung up when he sensed some­thing was not right and they asked for his bank de­tails.

How­ever, he fears scam­mers may have flooded the streets with let­ters and is keen to warn his neigh­bours and any­one else who may have re­ceived such a mes­sage to keep their wits about them.

Po­lice said they had not re­ceived any spe­cific complaints about the let­ter.

In­spec­tor Donna Bryans said: “We would ask any­one who has any con­cerns to please re­port them to po­lice.

“Peo­ple should be guarded and never give out their de­tails to any­one they don’t know is to­tally gen­uine.”
