MSP comments ‘simply untrue’

Stirling Observer - - GLORY OF AUTUMN -

I must write to address the comments by Mark Ruskell MSP (October 16) regarding the weapons convoys that need to travel across our road network. I am extremely disappointed at the rather hysterical and scaremongering tone adopted.

I am a retired submarine naval officer and served on various vessels on active front line operations around the world. I am appalled that an MSP makes such ill-informed comments.

I completely respect those who campaign for unilateral disarmament. I disagree with that view but it is a principled difference of opinion and nothing to do with raising spurious safety concerns about transportation. The safety and security of these weapons is given the absolute highest priority. To say that these convoys “pose a risk”is quite simply untrue and is rather insulting to those civilian and service personnel whose responsibility it is to ensure our deterrents are safely stored and moved.
