Chil­dren in Need The school will be par­tic­i­pat­ing in this year’s Chil­dren in Need Day on Fri­day, Novem­ber 17. It is a non-uni­form day (no football colours) and will cost £1 to par­tic­i­pate. There will also be a bake sale in the Hub at morn­ing break and there will be a fun­fair ac­tiv­ity at lunchtime. Staff De­vel­op­ment Days This year’s days are on Novem­ber 23 and 24. Pupils should re­turn to school on Mon­day, Novem­ber 27 at 8.45am. S6 pupils Any pupils with a study pe­riod who wish to leave the school dur­ing their study pe­riod should al­ways sign out at the school of­fice New Pre­lim Dates Please note that the S4-6 Pre­lim ex­am­i­na­tions will now take place two days later with the first day of ex­ams on Wed­nes­day, Jan­uary 10 and the last day of ex­ams now Tues­day, Jan­uary 23. Info evening An in­for­ma­tion evening for par­ents/car­ers of S3, S4, S5 and S6 pupils to help young peo­ple to de­velop study skills and achieve their full po­ten­tial in ex­ams will take place at the school on Tues­day, Novem­ber 21 at 7pm. Win­ter fete The school’s win­ter fete will take place on Satur­day, De­cem­ber 2 from 10am-2pm. There is free en­try to craft stalls, vinyl record stall, books, raf­fle, an es­cape room, car­ni­val games, a cafe and mu­sic per­for­mances. Friends and fam­ily are all wel­come. Se­nior Prom The Se­nior Prom will take place on Thurs­day, June 7 at Ho­tel Co­lessio. If any S6 pupil wishes to at­tend the Prom please play a £5 de­posit to Miss Todd by Fri­day, Novem­ber 17. Se­nior Christ­mas Dance De­posits for tick­ets are now be­ing taken. The de­posit is £10 and then an­other £10 will be due closer to the dance. Mem­bers of the com­mit­tee will be com­ing round tu­tor group classes and tak­ing de­posits. The dance takes place on Thurs­day, De­cem­ber 7 in the Al­bert Halls, Stir­ling. Wa­ter Polo Club starts to­mor­row (Thurs­day) after school. Please bring a swim kit. All year groups wel­come. Choir On Sun­day, Novem­ber 19 the choir will par­tic­i­pate in the Stir­ling Christ­mas Lights Switch On. They will join the pa­rade and sing on stage at 2.15pm-2.30pm. It would be great to see pupils and par­ents in at­ten­dance to sup­port the choir. you to Fr An­drew Kinghorn, Fr Mike Freyne and Fr Michael Ade­banjo who cel­e­brated the Mass. On the evening prayers were of­fered for all the de­ceased mem­bers of the school com­mu­nity. There was a good turn out from friends and fam­i­lies of the school. Thank you to lo­cal parishes for their sup­port. Zoo trip A group of 45 S1 pupils thor­oughly en­joyed the Mod­ern Lan­guages trip to the Span­ish Day at Ed­in­burgh Zoo. Pupils took part in Span­ish ac­tiv­i­ties and games re­cap­ping their prior knowl­edge of num­bers and colours, en­joyed a guided tour of the zoo and even got to hold a few an­i­mals found in South Amer­ica! Wall of Won­der The school has an ex­cit­ing new de­vel­op­ment aimed at recog­nis­ing pupil achieve­ment on a more reg­u­lar ba­sis. Any­one in the school com­mu­nity - pupil, par­ent/ carer or staff can nom­i­nate a pupil for any achieve­ment. Achieve­ments can be for any­thing amaz­ing in­clud­ing char­ity work, sport­ing en­deav­our, acts of faith, sup­port­ing oth­ers, be­ing in­clu­sive to name but a few. The Pupil Coun­cil Cel­e­brat­ing Suc­cess Group de­cide who the most de­serv­ing nom­i­na­tions are each round and their pic­tures are dis­played on the Wall of Won­der. No­table nom­i­na­tions for pupils who weren’t se­lected for the wall will also be on dis­play in the School Atrium. Spon­sored leg wax S6 pupils or­gan­ised a spon­sored leg wax in or­der to raise much needed funds for the Lasal­lian pro­ject vol­un­teers last week. The painful ses­sion took place at lunchtime on Tues­day, Novem­ber 7. Pupils and staff paid 50p to at­tend the spec­ta­cle and £2 to pull a wax strip from the boys’ legs. Ev­ery­one seemed to en­joy the ses­sion and they man­ages to raise around £100 to­wards their fund. Mock trial Le­gal ea­gles (a group of S5 and S6s) par­tic­i­pated in the mock trial at Stir­ling Sher­iff Court on Fri­day, Novem­ber 3. An il­lus­tri­ous le­gal ca­reer surely awaits for many. They had an in­ter­est­ing and ed­u­ca­tional day out. Remembrance Ser­vice St Mo­dan’s held a ser­vice on Fri­day, Novem­ber 10 in remembrance of those who paid the ul­ti­mate sac­ri­fice in ser­vice to the na­tion in the First and Sec­ond World Wars and other con­flicts through­out the world. A two-minute si­lence was ob­served at 11am and there was a lay­ing of wreaths in the grounds of St Mo­dan’s whilst staff and chil­dren hon­oured those who lost their lives with short spo­ken pas­sages and some of the chil­dren sung songs to pay their re­spects. Open day Fam­i­lies are in­vited to a Ju­nior School Open Morn­ing at Bea­con­hurst later this month. Any­one in­ter­ested in find­ing out what Bea­con­hurst has to of­fer can come along for a tour be­tween 9.30am and 11.30am on Fri­day, Novem­ber 24 – an in-ser­vice day for Stir­ling and Clack­man­nan­shire schools. Prospec­tive par­ents and pupils will have the chance to see the in­de­pen­dent Bridge of Al­lan school in ac­tion and meet ju­nior school teach­ers. The open morn­ing will in­clude guided tours around the ju­nior school which last month marked its 20 year an­niver­sary on the cur­rent site.
