Charity praises its city centre store

- Chris Marzella

Volunteers at a city centre charity shop were celebrating after being named the best in the country.

The Cancer Research UK shop at 76 Murray Place, Stirling, scooped the prize of Scottish shop of the year, coming second overall in the UK.

The shop pipped 600 other stores to the title. Manager Christine Douglas said: “It is absolutely brilliant for the shop and all of our volunteers who put in the hard work every day.

“To be named as the best in the country is a big honour and testament to the work that our 37 volunteers do, some of whom volunteer around their own jobs.”

The shop sells second-hand clothing, homeware, books and electrical items.

Christine added: “We are always keen for more donations and to recruit volunteers. Both are integral to the running of the store.”
