Wee county schools have received a national accolade for their delivery of sport.

The sportscotland School Sport Award is given for innovation and achievement in delivering school sport and 24 schools in Clackmannanshire have passed with flying colours.

Clacks now has 21 `gold–rated’ schools, including Coalsnaughton Primary, Fishcross Primary, Tillicoultry Primary and Strathdevon Primary.

All mainstream primary and secondary schools in Clackmannanshire currently hold the gold award, while all additional support needs schools have achieved a bronze.

Funded by the National Lottery, the award is a national initiative to encourage schools to improve physical education and sport.

Clackmannanhsire Council’s education spokesperson Graham Lindsay said: “With all our primary and secondary schools at gold, I want to congratulate the school sports committees based in each school who have met all the award criteria, ensuring a quality experience for all pupils.”
