Free fam­ily ac­tiv­i­ties could also be of­fered on the day of the event to sign­post peo­ple to other projects and events such as lo­cal Parkrun and the Great Stir­ling Run on April 29.

Ms McKnight added: “Over the three-year pe­riod of the event, part­ners would like to de­velop a fam­ily zone sim­i­lar to that pro­vided at Glas­gow Green for the Euro­pean Cham­pi­onships 2018 which it­self built on the Com­mon­wealth Games legacy.

“Eval­u­a­tions show this type of event does en­cour­age wide fam­ily par­tic­i­pa­tion out­with sport­ing par­tic­i­pants and spec­ta­tors and pro­vides an op­por­tu­nity for re­lated in­for­ma­tion and aware­ness rais­ing us­ing fun par­tic­i­pa­tive meth­ods in­clud­ing such top­ics as food, diet, sub­stance use and gen­eral healthy liv­ing.”
