Road in front of station to close
A SECTION of the road in front of Stockport Railway Station will close for six months as work on phase two of the Stockport Exchange development gets underway.
Part of Station Road will close to traffic on January 9 as the site’s hoarding line is extended across the road, and will remain closed until July.
Vehicles from the A6 will be able to get to the station via Railway Road, and a new turning area with a bus stop and taxi rank will be created at the end of the road between the station and multi-storey car park.
A public exhibition outlining the works will take place at the station on Thursday, January 7 between 3pm and 6pm, and Friday, January 8 between 8am and 10am.
Stockport Exchange is part of the council’s ‘Investing in Stockport’ programme and will include a Holiday Inn hotel, office building, retail space and public realm.
Councillor Patrick McAuley, executive member for thriving economy, said: “The benefits Stockport Exchange will bring to Stockport we hope will be significant, but there needs to be some changes that take place during the works.”
