Project for young people is a winner
STOCKPORT Homes has won the Excellence in Youth Involvement award at the Northern Tpas awards.
The winners were announced at a ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester Deansgate on Friday, April 7.
The award recognises projects and initiatives that have helped to address youth needs and facilitate change, as well as recognising the commitment and continued activity of local young people.
Stockport Homes won the award for its Youth Aspiration project, where it created a multi-agency partnership to offer young people a 12-month programme of diversionary activities during school holidays. The project was delivered in partnership with specialist youth work agencies but gave young people a driving seat in the design of activities that they could get excited about.
These included cooking sessions, sports activities and taking part in charity fundraising.
Rebecca Parry, customer and community engagement team leader at Stockport Homes, said, “Young people who live in our properties are often vulnerable and at risk of causing anti-social behaviour.
“We are delighted to be recognised for our diversionary work with Stockport’s younger residents to provide them with the best guidance, advice and opportunities available.”
