“The idea of this reciprocal agreement has been received with great enthusiasm from both clubs members, the idea is to start the agreement on 1st April 2017 and monitor the situation and modify if required, the attitude of both clubs committees is to bring our clubs closer together and learn from each other’s successes.”

Disley chairman Paul Backx added: “We are delighted to form an alliance with Didsbury and we believe that the dual facility offers tremendous benefits to the members of both clubs.

“We look forward to welcoming the members of Didsbury to our course and clubhouse through the coming years.”

The final word came from Didsbury hon secretary Maurice Watkins: “We are looking forward to hosting Disley players to our club and likewise hope that our members enjoy the experience of playing at Disley.

“”All players using the facility must make themselves aware of any requiremen­ts on and off the course set by the home club and we will review the success 2018.”

Disley’s men played for the Don Riley Trophy in an Aggregate Stabelford and it was won by V Petrykowsk­i and J Hunt with 79 points from T Collinson and C Taylor 77.

Disley ladies played a Stabelford over 18 holes and Denise Seddon was out on her own with 43 points, eight more than Irene Fell and Jean Blackie.

A singles Stableford for Cheadle ladies was won by Beverley Patino with 32 points from Ann Smith 31 and Susan Shaw 29.

The cream rose to the top as Cheadle’s men played a two-division Stableford with Andy Hall winning a cpo on 37 points from Mick Holmes in division one.

In division two Chris Cole was top of the shop with 36 points, one more than John Crowley.

There was some tidy scoring by Cheadle’s men in a singles Stableford led in by Anthony Stevens with 40 points, one more than Phil Rodman.

A singles Stableford for Cheadle ladies had Rosin Andrew in top spot with 23 points from Valerie Griffiths 22.

A bogey in March for Heaton Moor’s men needed a cpo on +2 to take Jeremy Eaton into top spot from Colin Tichias.

Moor’s ladies were in medal mode and Barbara Craig was out on her own with 69 from Monica McLoughlin 74.

A charity medal for New Mills seniors was won by John Tennant with 65 from Rod Taylor 67.

Karen Jones stormed to victory in a singles Stableford for Mellor and Townscliff­e ladies as she carded 43 points to finish nine clear of Jean Rogerson and Eileen Lewis.

M and T’s men played a singles Stableford and in division one T Davenport was on top with 41 points from Ian Smith 39,

In division two Mark Hughes had an impressive 42 points, two more than Adma Bradshaw and T Cumpsty.

The first round of the Handicap Cup at Romiley was a family affair as Brooke Snape led in with 65, one more than Bradley Snape.

Singles Stableford action for Romiley ladies had Janet Worthingto­n on top with 37 points from Angela Slate 36.

Denton Golf Club were excellent hosts for a quality field battling for the Manchester Alliance’s 36-hole stroke play championsh­ip.

It proved to be a top quality contest in the profession­al section with vital points on offer for the Order of Merit title now in its final few competitio­ns as well as the prestigiou­s trophy.

Birchwood’s Phil Archer showed his class and European Tour experience as he set the early pace with a fine opening round of 68 that gave him the edge over Andy Palmer (Chorley) and Graham Cox (Lymm) both 70 and Mark Smith (Stamford) 72.

Archer is the current leader in the profession­al Order of Merit and a tidy second round of 71 gave him a winning total of 139 and a more comfortabl­e margin from his main rivals in the O-o-M.

Chasing all the way were Steve Parry (Hart Common) and Graham Cox, both 141, Andy Palmer 142 and Rob Batchelor (Stand) and Alistair Waddell (Styal, both 143.

The top amateur was Wychwood Park’s Paul Wilson with rounds of 76 and 71 for a winning total of 147 leaving him well clear of Mark Marshall (Denton) and Phil Cooney (Wigan).
