Festival headliners announced
●●THE Blackthorn Music Festival returns to Stockport this summer with some big names from the 1990s confirmed on the bill. Nigel Cartner from Sonic Bandwagon (Friday 10pm-midnight) and The Roadhouse (Thursday 9pm-11pm) on Stockport’s radio station Pure 107.8FM takes up the story. THE Blackthorn Music Festival is one of the North West’s premier summer music events.
The festival takes place between Friday, July 21 and Sunday, July 23, at Whitebottom Farm, Etherow Country Park, showcasing some of the best music in the British underground scene today – with an emphasis on local talent.
Attempting to cater for a variety of genres, the organisers have a strong focus on indie, rock, country and acoustic music, but don’t be surprised to catch the odd differing genre to freshen things up, and to broaden musical horizons from time to time.
Past years at Blackthorn have always had a couple of well-known acts performing the headline slots and this year is no different. In fact, it’s better, as three 90s legends – Reef, Lightning Seeds and Space – will grace the stage at various points throughout the weekend.
It’s sure to be a trip down memory lane for many festival-goers.
As usual, aside from the new music and legends on offer, the customary tribute acts will take to the stage on Friday, with Ohasis, The Smiths Ltd and a Sex Pistols tribute all set to liven up the night with a series of wellknown hits from a celebrated age of music.
Blackthorn has been a growing festival year on year, seemingly full of potential of where it can go in future.
This year is a statement towards realising that potential, and proves once again that this is the local summer highlight of the year.
Having attended the past two years, it’s an event that gets bigger and better year on year. If you like your music and festivals to be laidback, fun, family-friendly and set in a beautiful, safe environment, then Blackthorn is a must attend.
