PARENTS who are trying to raise £1,000 for every day of their baby’s short life are well on their way thanks to a stellar fundraising event in Stockport.

Freddie Platt-Chance was born with a range of serious health problems, including a congenital heart defect and multiple cysts in his lungs, and was treated in the neonatal intensive care unit at St Mary’s Hospital Manchester.

Sadly he lost his life on January 13 this year at just 25 days old – and now his parents, Ingrid and Andy Platt-Chance from Offerton, are attempting to raise £25,000 by what would have been Freddie’s first birthday in December.

Their original fundraising target was £5,000 but they quickly overtook that and are now over £17,000 following the event at Stockport County FC at the end of June.

The venue was dressed by I Do Venues and the event was compered by Steve Bellis, with a photographer, live singer, tribute bands, DJ, raffle and auction with prizes from businesses including Tesla, Audi, Manchester City and Manchester United. Around 300 people attended.

Ingrid said they were ‘overwhelmed’ by the amount of support they received.

“We only expected to raise around £2,000 from the event and we thought by now we’d be at around £13,000, so to get to over £17,000 is amazing,” she said.

“The amount of support we’ve had has been phenomenal. I sent a letter to some businesses asking if they would be able to help and so many got involved. In the end we had around 50 businesses make donations.

“We have had a really good team helping us. It was just fantastic.”

The event took place on what would have been Freddie’s six-month birthday.

Ingrid added: “This amount will go a long way in helping bereaved families and also towards equipment. It is a cause close to our hearts and will hopefully help some others see the benefits.

“We are determined to make Freddie’s life and his legacy a positive one.”

They are now looking for businesses to help out with fundraising for the last £7,000 they need to hit their target.
