School dances away with award

A STOCK­PORT out­fit has been crowned Vo­ca­tional Dance School of the Year.

De­but Arts Academy, based on Lower Hill­gate, took the ti­tle in the Dance School of the Year Awards.

The awards, now in their fifth year, were founded by Anne Walker MBE to cel­e­brate the achieve­ments of the­atre dance schools.

Thou­sands of schools of all sizes from across the UK and Europe en­tered and 34 schools were short­listed

Judges Paul Haigney, Francesca Filpi and An­gela Rip­pon joined more than 150 dance teach­ers at the awards.

Anne Walker said: “You are al­ready winners, be­cause you have cre­ated many poised, dis­ci­plined, well-man­nered young peo­ple who will go through life un­der­stand­ing how to work as a team - be­cause of you. They will re­alise that through hard work and dili­gent prac­tice any­thing is pos­si­ble be­cause of you.

“They will know that dreams re­ally can come true - be­cause of you.”
