Millions more to help people in Iraq
A HUMANITARIAN aid charity in Stockport is to be awarded over £4.3m to distribute aid in Iraq.
Human Appeal, which has its headquarters in Cheadle, will receive the money from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).
It will be used to distribute core relief items to 150,000 people living in the Iraqi city of Mosul, which has recently been liberated from ISIS.
The funding will also allow Human Appeal to extend its emergency shelter response project by providing 216,000 people in the city with emergency shelter kits and ‘sealing off kits’ for families living in partially-destroyed homes.
Human Appeal was the first charity to respond to the west of Mosul with 200 members of staff helping the city’s residents.
This latest funding brings the total value of Human Appeal aid programmes in Iraq close to £20m.
