Plans for new flats on land
A DERELICT piece of land that has become a blight in an area earmarked for £7m of investment could be used for 22 new homes.
The vacant land has been an eyesore on Lower Hillgate, in Stockport town centre, for several decades. But plans from Clearly Properties will go before the council’s Central Area Committee and are recommended for approval.
The application seeks to build a six-storey block with 22 flats and consultation with nearby businesses and residents has brought no objections.
A report by council officers for committee members states: “The site represents a long-term vacancy within the town centre, having not supported any form of development for several decades.
“As a response to regeneration aspirations the council has committed £7m specifically to the regeneration of Market Place and Underbanks area.”
