New alert after man ap­proaches two girls

AN­OTHER warn­ing has been is­sued to par­ents after two young girls were ap­proached by a man in the street - the third in­ci­dent in just eight days.

There have been three re­ports of chil­dren be­ing ap­proached by men in the street since Septem­ber 28.

A young boy in Sal­ford fought off a man who tried to kid­nap him in broad day­light. Five days later, a man tried to ‘bun­dle’ a 12-yearold girl into his van in Rochdale.

In the latest in­ci­dent, in Stock­port, two girls were stood at a bus stop when a man in a sil­ver pick-up truck pulled up and ha­rangued them. The man, who was said to have been ‘very pushy,’ asked the girls if they wanted a lift home. He even­tu­ally drove off. Po­lice say the in­ci­dent, on Thurs­day, hap­pened at a bus stop near the Fir Tree pub on Gor­ton Road at around 3.30pm.

The driver was in his late 40s or early 50s.

Red­dish Vale High School posted a warn­ing to par­ents and stu­dents on its Facebook page urg­ing them to be aware. It read: “Please be alert there is an male late 40s early 50s driv­ing a sil­ver pick-up truck ap­proach­ing school chil­dren ask­ing if they want a lift home, this hap­pened near the bus stop at the Fir Tree pub.

“He was very pushy and when they de­clined, he did even­tu­ally drive off and the girls were smart enough to get the ve­hi­cle details, these have been passed to the po­lice. Please be aware and re­port any­thing to the po­lice.”

A spokes­woman for GMP said: “We were called at 3.30pm on Thurs­day to Gor­ton Road in Red­dish to re­ports of sus­pi­cious man in a ve­hi­cle.

“He had pulled up at a bus stop and asked a teenage girl and her friend if he could give them a lift. They re­fused and the man drove away.

Po­lice were called to Cross­gates Road in Mil­nrow, Rochdale, on Monday , Oc­to­ber 2, after a man tried to ‘bun­dle’ a 12-year-old girl into his van.

The driver of the white Tran­sit van is thought to have been in his late 20s, with a ‘Mediter­ranean com­plex­ion.’ He was wear­ing a ski hat.

On Wed­nes­day, Septem­ber 27, a school­boy man­aged to fight off the man who grabbed him from be­hind and forced him down an al­ley.

The boy was walk­ing along Castle­way, in Clifton, when he was grabbed by the 6ft 4 man. The young boy man­aged to es­cape and re­turned to his home. Po­lice were called at around 3.45pm on Wed­nes­day.
