Jack’s close shave is charity winner
A SCHOOLBOY who has lost one brother to cancer and has another undergoing treatment for the disease has raised thousands of pounds for charity.
Jack Everton, 15, from Cheadle Hulme, had his head shaved in front of 170 other students and teachers at Cheadle Hulme School on Thursday.
He had been growing his hair for two years and so far his braving the shave has raised £7,000 for the Christie.
His brother, 29, is a patient at the hospital after being diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer in December 2016. It started in his pancreas and spread to his liver, but is being kept under control with chemotherapy tablets.
Another brother, Nick, died in 2002 just five weeks after receiving a stomach cancer diagnosis at the age of 17.
Jack, who wants to be a fashion stylist, said: “I was not that excited at about having my head shaved, as I had been growing my hair for two years and liked it long.
“I’m missing it already, but I’ve done this to show support for my brother, who is my best friend.
“He will laugh at me when he sees my bald head.
“Before the total raised got quite so high, I did wonder if I could just change my mind.
“But as it climbed into the thousands, I knew I had to go though with it.”
Celebrity hair stylist Joshua Bates, whose clients include The Real Housewives of Cheshire stars Stacey Forsey and Seema Malhotra, shaved Jack’s head.
He had originally set a target of raising £500 but hit that in just two hours.
Both of his brothers were born with a hereditary condition known as MYHAssociated Polyposis (MAP), which means they are genetically predisposed to forming polyps in the gastrointestinal tract that can become cancerous.
Jack’s hair is now being donated to the Little Princess Trust, who make wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer treatment.
Emma Giagnacovo, from the Christie, said: “This is an unusually large amount for one individual to have raised.
“Jack’s family connection to the Christie and close relationship with his brother have driven him on to be a star fundraiser.”
