Birthday salon too busy to party

Stockport Express - - Business -

THIS weekend a Bramhall hairdressers’ 30th anniversary went almost unremarked - as the owner was too busy raising money for Macmillan.

Alison Jones (then Preston) set up Hair by Alison Preston on September 30, 1987 and the hairdressers has been a staple on Bramhall Lane South ever since.

Her team managed to raise £300 for Macmillan cancer support and decided to only mark the anniversary with a banner above the salon.

When asked about the success of her store, which is one of the oldest in the area alongside Turners Flooring, the mother-ofthree said it was the store’s friendly yet professional attitude that helped them thrive.

Alison, 55, said: “We’ve used the same products for 30 years that people like. We don’t like to chop and change.”

Some of her regulars have been visiting the salon for several years or even a decade - including one who is 101 years old.

Alison’s entrepreneurial spirit has brushed off on her children, with two launching their own business. She added: “You’ve got to have ambition in today’s world.”

Her son, Daniel Scott, 25, runs Daniel Scott Kitchens and her daughter Megan Jones, 21, has just set up MLJ photography. Her other daughter, Natalie, 27, is a teacher and has a son called Finley.
