Bor­ough wide ser­vices to hon­our the war dead

THOSE who died serv­ing their coun­try will be hon­oured in Stock­port.

Com­mem­o­ra­tive ser­vices and events will take place through­out the bor­ough on Ar­mistice Day (Satur­day, Novem­ber 11) and Re­mem­brance Sun­day, the fol­low­ing day.

They have been or­gan­ised by the Royal Bri­tish Le­gion and the coun­cil and there will be a twominute si­lence on Ar­mistice Day from 11am at Stock­port War Memo­rial and Art Gallery.

Mayor of Stock­port Linda Holt will at­tend and the be­gin­ning and end of the si­lence will be marked by ma­roon rock­ets be­ing launched from the nearby civic com­plex.

Coun­cil­lor Holt will also be at the same lo­ca­tion on Re­mem­brance Sun­day for another two-minute si­lence from 11am.

It will be­gin with the Last Port and there will be wreath lay­ing and prayers and re­flec­tion from Bishop of Stock­port, the Right Rev­erend Libby Lane.

Coun Alex Gan­otis, coun­cil leader, said: “This is a key op­por­tu­nity to hon­our ser­vice­men and women of this coun­try and the Com­mon­wealth who paid the ul­ti­mate price. I’d en­cour­age Stock­port res­i­dents to join us in re­mem­ber­ing them.”

10.35am - Armed Forces Pro­ces­sion from the Armoury to the war memo­rial

10.50am - Civic pro­ces­sion from the town hall to the war memo­rial

11am - Two-minute si­lence, ser­vice, wreath lay­ing


10.30am - Pro­ces­sion from Hol­land Road to Bramhall War Memo­rial

11am - Ser­vice at the war memo­rial


3pm - Ser­vice at the war memo­rial, Ge­orge Lane


10.30am - Pa­rade to as­sem­ble at junc­tion of Massie Street with High Street to pro­ceed down High Street to war memo­rial.

10.50am - Ser­vice at the war memo­rial


9.40am - Meets at Hazel Road (by old Po­lice Sta­tion) and pro­ceed to war memo­rial

9.55am - De­part to war memo­rial


10.50am - Lay­ing of wreaths at war memo­rial, Comp­stall Brow, prior to ser­vice at St Paul’s Church


10.45am - Ser­vice of Re­mem­brance at war memo­rial, Gat­ley Green


10.45am - Ser­vice and lay­ing of wreaths at war memo­rial, London Road


Noon - Ser­vice and lay­ing of wreaths at Heald Green and Long Lane War Memo­rial, Wilm­slow Road
