ON Sunday, September 10, I attended the Vintage Village held at Stockport Covered market.

Across the road in the food hall a (Sabrina) fair was being held which consisted of a film show by Stephen Cole. Sabrina found fame as a busty blonde in 1955 appearing in the Arthur Askey Show.

Her real name was Norma Ann Sykes and I lived opposite her in Buckingham St Heaviley. Her mother did dress making in the front room of their house.

When the war was over and down came the blackout curtains, I and Pam Hudson and Shirley Pearson took our curtains to Mrs Sykes who made us some PE shorts for school, they were similar to a mini skirt with pleats rather than the boxer type of shorts that were available during the war.

Alas Pam and Shirley are not with us anymore.

Also at the fair was Peter Johnson, who lived on Bramhall Lane, and his wife Pat and together we were able to give Stephen Cole further information on Norma as she grew up.

Also there was Marion Cummings who we didn’t recognise as we hadn’t seen her since we left school in 1952.

Marion is still a good friend of Sheila Francis who unfortunately couldn’t join us due to ill health. After the film show I was approached by a young lady called Susan Dawkins who is writing a book about Sabrina.

Norma, Peter and I were able to give her snippets about life growing up with her. Susan is still seeking more information about Norma’s younger days and I was wondering if there is anyone who attended St George’s School from 1948 to !952 who remembers Norma?

If so could you let me know? Any snippets of information I receive I can pass on to Susie Dawkins to be published in her book. Sybil Marshall (nee Webb), Flat 9 Church View, All Saints Lane, Nettleham, Lincoln, LN2 2NU
