Warn­ing af­ter the bus stop flasher strikes

School­girls tar­geted by ’man with long grey­ish hair’

CHIL­DREN are be­ing warned to travel in groups and po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing af­ter a man ex­posed him­self to school­girls as they waited for a bus in Stock­port.

The stu­dents had been wait­ing at a bus stop on Gill­bent Road in Chea­dle Hulme when they were ap­proached at around 3.40pm last Tues­day.

The man, who had long grey­ish hair, ex­posed him­self, then fled when the bus ar­rived. Chea­dle Hulme High School, which the girls at­tend, have is­sued a warn­ing email to par­ents and pupils. Deputy head teacher Wendy Searle urged par­ents to ask their chil­dren to travel in groups.

PO­LICE are in­ves­ti­gat­ing and chil­dren have been asked to travel in groups af­ter a man ex­posed him­self to school­girls as they waited for a bus in Stock­port.

The stu­dents had been wait­ing at a bus stop on Gill­bent Road in Chea­dle Hulme when they were ap­proached. It hap­pened at around 3.40pm on Tues­day.

The man, who had long grey­ish hair, ex­posed him­self, then fled when the bus ar­rived. Chea­dle Hulme High School, which the girls at­tend, have is­sued a warn­ing email to par­ents and pupils fol­low­ing the in­ci­dent.

Deputy head teacher Wendy Searle urged par­ents to ask their chil­dren to travel in groups and said that all stu­dents would be spo­ken to about safety.

The email read: “We have been in­formed that two of our stu­dents were ap­proached by a man who then ex­posed him­self.

“This was close to our school (on Gill­bent Road) at ap­prox­i­mately 3.40pm on Tues­day 31st Oc­to­ber. He has been de­scribed as white, old, with long grey­ish hair.

“The po­lice have been in­formed.

“Please speak to your child/chil­dren about this and re­mind them of the need to walk home in groups and let you know where they are go­ing.

“We will en­deav­our to speak to all our stu­dents via their class teacher to­day to re­mind them to take care when out and about in the com­mu­nity and to share any con­cerns with you, us and the po­lice if nec­es­sary.”

A spokesman for GMP added: “We were called at 4.30pm on Oc­to­ber 31 to re­ports that a man had ex­posed him­self.

“Two girls had been wait­ing at a bus stop when they no­ticed the male of­fender ex­pos­ing him­self.

“The bus then ar­rived and the man fled.”

Last month, another warn­ing was is­sued by Red­dish Vale High School af­ter two girls were ap­proached by a man in a sil­ver pick-up truck. He pulled up and ha­rangued them.

The man, who was said to have been ‘very pushy,’ asked the girls if they wanted a lift home. He even­tu­ally drove off.

Po­lice say the in­ci­dent hap­pened at a bus stop near the Fir Tree pub on Gor­ton Road at around 3.30pm on Oc­to­ber 5.

The driver was in his late 40s or early 50s.
