- BOXING

JOE Murray is targeting a British title fight with Lewis Ritson after he was victorious over the weekend.

Joe, who trains with his brother John at the Murray Machines gym in Reddish, picked up an eighth round stoppage against Felix Venganayi at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester.

It was part of a UK vs Africa event that was taking place, with Murray’s victory helping team UK pick up the overall win by three and a half points to one and a half.

The win for Murray has seen him extend his professional record to 23 wins and just two defeats, with those defeats coming against recent world title challenger Liam Walsh.

Murray is on an eight fight winning streak, having also beaten the likes of Matty Fagan and Rashid Kassem over the past 12 months.

Also victorious on the card at Victoria Warehouse were the likes of Bilal Rehman, Mark Thompson, Jordan McCorry, Marc Laech, Jack Cullen, Lukas Ndafoluma and Ross Cooksey, while Ben Sheedy was held to a controversial draw against Barend van Rooyen.
