Rain halts Woodley’s run chase

WOODLEY entertaine­d Hayfield, who batted first and scored a massive 331-6, K Sharp with 36, Gareth Davies 54 E Noblet 42 and H Poggonpoel 142. Conor Cranwell made 35 in Woodley’s 99-5 before rain stopped play.

Tintwistle travelled to Dinting and were 250-9 at the end of their 45 overs, Karl Handforth with 69 and R Harris 48 as D Stringer took 3-38. G Harwick then scored 32 and M Stringer 34 as Dinting struggled to 102-7.

Mottram made the short trip to Broadbotto­m and saw their hosts post 183 all out with M Orpen making 49 and D Perrin 79 as M Scott took 3-28. Oliver Andrew then hit 57 and Tyan Fitton 35 as Mottram secured victory on 187-7.

Division 2 Whaley Bridge batted first at New Mills and were 195 all out, Sam Slack with 58 and Lee Jones 55 as R Di Claudio took 3-63 and M Birchenall 3-34. New Mills were then 158-8 with J Duckworth having hit 40 and Birchenall 55 in a rain affected draw. Old Glossop were asked to bat by hosts Hadfield and were 207-8, A Demidh with 37, M Allen 50 and Lenny Allsop 55. The home side were 12-1 when the thundersto­rm hit.

Hazel Grove hosted Compstall and were asked to bat, Geoff Noden making 31, Mark Clayton 44 and Dominic Nunn 39 in a total of 172-7. Sam Messih then hit a patient 68 to anchor the reply as Compstall claimed victory with just a ball to spare.

Division 3 High Lane invited visitors Chapel to bat and saw them make 230-5, Andy Hibbert with 65, Ian Betts 37 and J Jackson 41. Jonny Marshall then hit 123 and Josh Noel 33 as High Lane claimed a three wicket victory closing 233-7.

Birch Vale hit 305-2 batting first at home to Offerton with L Kennedy scoring an unbeaten 105 and Khallis Hyde 72.

Despite slumping to 13-8 Offerton held on to claim a draw, L Anthony claiming 4-11. Charleswor­th were asked to bat by visitors Staly St Pauls and were 191-9 after their 45 overs, M Bardsley with 40 and Gareth Evans 79 as G Sandiford took 4-59 and J Brady 3-46. Staly were then bowled out for 161, Richard Wright with 54 and M Whitworth 35 as D Wood took 5-49 and Elliott Morley 3-65.

Division 4 Woodley elected to bat at Newton and posted 186-8, H Rippon with 31, Will Adam 43 and C Wilson 45 not out as M Pottage took 3-18. Newton were then 151-6 to ensure a draw, J Maden with 45 and O Marrow 62 with J Reid taking 3-18. Hawk Green batted first at home to Dove Holes and were 160 all out, J Blackhurst top scoring with 38 as J Norton took 4-49 and K Collins 4-30. Dove Holes were then bowled out for 119, R Hawkes making 33 as G Ridings took 3-42 and H Fentiman 4-17.

Broadbotto­m chose to bat at Mottram, finishing 177 all out thanks to 54 from J Brotherton, P Broscombe taking 5-39. It wasn’t to be enough as Broscombe then hit 82 and S O’Mara 46 to help Mottram to 178.

Tintwistle posted 220-6 as they batted first at home to New Mills, S Morris with 63 and K Davies 51 with SP Barrow 37 not out as S Mills took 3-51. Usman Ali then hit 94 and Ben Boardman 54 as New Mills raced to 221-6, Ethan Tomlinson taking 3-34.

Division 5 Hazel Grove batted first at Compstall and were 156 all out, Steve Pigeon with 51 and Jake Bennett 43 while V Clarke took 4-28 and Mike Hawkin, celebratin­g 50 years in the DCCL, 3-7. Ravi Patel then scored 51 and son Josh 33 but Compstall ran out of overs following the rain to finish 141-6.

Division 6 Offerton were 135 all out batting first at home to Hadfield, D Scholes with 30 as M Hockey took 3-28. Hadfield never got out to begin their reply due to the rain.
