A TALENTED teenager was thrilled to be one of eight young singers and their mums to star in a CBBC talent show.

Elijah Freeman, of Heaton Chapel, will be relying on viewer votes later this month to progress to the series final of Got What It Takes?

The kids take part in a singing talent competition and stay at a music mansion with their mums.

Elijah, 13, watched the first episode with his form and form teacher at Priestnall School. He has played guitar since he was at Broadstone Hall Primary and began playing and singing in Year 4.

He said: “I’ve made lifetime friends with the other kids and it helped me to improve my performing skills. I got to know how it feels to be filmed and to be in front of a camera. I would love to get through to the finals. Performing is my dream and passion.”

His mum Ntiriwah said: “I was pleasantly surprised to be with such a lovely bunch of mums and it was amazing that we all got on so well.”

There are 10 episodes until the end of November and people can vote for Elijah on Monday, November 19 after the ninth episode is aired, with a 24-hour period to vote online.
