Twins big thank you for lifesaving medic
AMUM and her twins have been reunited with the paramedic who helped save their lives seven years ago.
Amanda Hartley- Denton, 40, suffered complications during her pregnancy while husband Tony was out running and called an ambulance with paramedic Simon Buckley on board.
She was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital in Manchester where she needed emergency surgery.
Despite an 80 per cent chancethateitherAmanda, who was 37 weeks pregnant at the time, or one of her twins, Roman and Lucia, would not survive surgery, all three emerged unscathed and healthy.
Amanda said: “It was a massive medical emergency and to walk away with all three of us was pretty amazing.”
The twins now go to St Simon’s School in Hazel Grove.
Amanda thanked the hospital staff who treated her at the time, but was unable to do the same for the paramedic who initially took her to hospital.
A chance encounter inspired Amanda to try and track him down and after an email a meeting was arranged.
The entire family, including older daughter Georgia, nine, met 37-year-old Simon, who was taken aback by the encounter.
In a twist of fate, Simon, who has been in the job for 10 years, has a son of the same age as the twins.
Simon, who is based at Altrincham, said: “I remember that day, even though it was seven years ago. When my colleague and I got to Amanda, we realised how poorly she was and how critical it was for the babies.
“We knew she had to get to hospital as soon as possible.
“Normally you leave the patient at the hospital and that is it. You usually don’t hear anything else again because you deal with so many jobs – you get the odd thank you letter but nothing like this.”
The family, who live in Marple Bridge, made a thank you card for Simon, with pictures of the twins growing up, memories that Amanda says would not have been possible without Simon’s help.
She said: “We just wanted to say thank you for being great.
“Georgia was two when it happened and they were just amazing with her as well. We just came away from it feeling all warm and fuzzy.”
