Your chance to win unique 80s collection
BBC Radio 2’s Sounds Of The 80s CD is a unique collection of covers of classic hits by some of today’s most popular acts, celebrating music’s biggest, diverse and flamboyant decade.
The album features artists who were successful performers during those glory years such as Kylie Minogue, Chrissie Hynde, Dolly Parton and Level 42, and newer artists who were very much inspired by the time such as Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Christina Perri, Caro Emerald, Olly Murs, Birdy, The Pierces, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and The Script to name just a few.
Sounds Of The 80s is a companion album to Sara Cox’s Radio 2 show of the same name which is broadcast every Saturday night from 10pm to midnight. The exclusive and previously unreleased tracks have been carefully chosen by each artist and truly made their own with album highlights including Sam Smith singing Whitney’s How Will I Know, Ed Sheeran’s take on Bruce Springsteen’s Atlantic City, London Grammar’s cover of Chris Isaac’s Wicked Game, Kylie’s version of Kim Carnes’ Bette Davis Eyes, The Pierces take on Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush’s Don’t Give Up, The Script’s interpretation of The Cars’ Drive and Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s version of New Order classic True Faith.
Presenter Sara Cox said of the album release: “On Saturday nights we bring you a big 80s disco – all the best music from the best decade and with this album we do that but with a big exciting twist – all your favourite artists putting their own spin on 80s classics. I mean, Sam Smith covering Whitney, it was meant to be.”
