Hits from decade of change

Stockport Times West - - SOUNDS WRITE -

AT this time of year in particular, in the run-up to Christmas, compilation albums of every kind genre get released by what seems like the bucketload so picking out the standout ones worthy of your hard-earned cash is not always an easy task.

Sony Music’s latest various artists compilation though, entitled Silence Is Golden, is definitely an album that doesn’t disappoint.

In celebration of the original chilled out generation, Silence Is Golden is a bumper 3CD set of 60 hits from the artists who witnessed a decade of momentous social change, and cleverly captured the spirit of free love through their music.

Named after the hit single made famous by English beat group The Tremeloes, Silence Is Golden not only went on to become their biggest selling record, but also remains as a true inspiration for the band, a feeling that was translated throughout the musical decade.

The Tremeloes’ drummer Dave Munden said: “The lyrics in the songs were all audible and meant something special in all our lives.

“I believe that the tracks on this album are a true reflection of the joy and happiness that was around in both music and in world feelings at that time.”

Silence Is Golden includes many timeless classics across its three CDs such as The Beach Boys’ God Only Knows, Fleetwood Mac Albatross, Marvin Gaye’s What’s Goin On, Simon and Garfunkel Sound Of Silence, Andy Williams’ Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Alone Again Or by Love, Harry Nilsson’s Everybody’s Talkin and Flowers In The Rain by The Move to name just a handful.
