Hotshot Downes Cup opposition
WHALLEY Range joined Bedians in the last eight of the Lancashire Amateur Cup with a hard-earned 4-2 win over Standish St Wilfreds.
They had gone behind twice in the first half, either side of Connor Downes’ goal, before the same player drew them level.
Downes then added two more goals to see his side into the last eight.
In the Premier division South Manchester missed the chance to go clear at the top as leaders Rochdalians had their game at Castleton postponed.
South were second best for much of their derby with Chorltonians, having fallen 4-1 behind in the second half.
Although they pulled back two late goals, it was too little too late.
Mellor beat AFC Oldham 4-0, Parrs Wood Celtic won 5-2 at Moston Brook, while Bedians were 1-0 victors at Old Ashtonians.
Division One leaders Govan Athletic lost 5-4 at Signol Athletic, Eagle FC beat Hooley Bridge Celtic 3-0, while Gorse Hill lost 4-1 at Tintwistle Athletic.
There were goals galore in Division Two, where leaders Whalley Range won 9-3 at AFC Bury Town, High Lane beat Mellor 6-1, Salford Vics saw off Old Strets 8-0, Spurley Hey defeated Chorltonians 5-4, Ardwick edged out Urmston Town 4-3 and Rochdalians prevailed 4-2 over Stoconians.
Division Three leaders Deans lost their first game of the season, 3-2 to Castleton, while Staly Lions beat Oldham Vics 5-0, Moston Brook won 3-1 at Parrs Wood Celtic and Cheadle Hulme Villa lost 1-0 to Trafford United.
Division A pacesetters Salford Vics also lost, 3-2 to Old Strets, Newton cruised past Whalley Range 3-0 and South Manchester beat Ashtonians 4-2.
Aldermere stayed top of Division B after a 3-2 win over Burnage Metro, Salford Vics won 5-3 at Abacus Media, Mellor lost 3-1 to Milton, Tintwistle Athletic beat AFC Oldham 3-0, FC Bury Town saw off Bedians 4-0, Deans had a 5-3 success over Spurley Hey, while Stoconians won 5-2 at Staly Lions.
Hillgate kept up their unbeaten record in Division D with victory over Bedians, while Tintwistle Athletic went down 4-1 at Stoconians.
AFC Oldham went top of Division E with a 5-1 win at Govan Athletic, Whalley Range lost 6-1 to Droylsden JFC, Bury Ams beat Staly Lions 2-0 and Chorltonians saw off Old Strets 4-2.
