Gorvins in de­men­tia aware­ness cam­paign

STAFF at a Stock­port solic­i­tors have been learn­ing about one of the UK’s big­gest health is­sues.

Em­ploy­ees at Gorvins, based at Tiv­iot Dale, Stock­port town cen­tre, took part in the De­men­tia Friends cam­paign.

It has been set up by Pub­lic Health Eng­land and the Alzheimer’s So­ci­ety to help par­tic­i­pants gain a greater un­der­stand­ing of de­men­tia.

Cur­rently it is es­ti­mated more than 670,000 peo­ple suf­fer from de­men­tia in the UK.

G orvins now reg­u­larly hold sem­i­nars for peo­ple who have the con­di­tion or have been af­fected by it.

Ta­soula Crosby, from the company, says many of the clients she works with ei­ther live with de­men­tia or care for some­one with it.

She said: “Of­ten peo­ple with de­men­tia are scared about go­ing into new sit­u­a­tions, so Gorvins em­ploy­ees are now able to help clients feel com­fort­able in that en­vi­ron­ment.

“It also means more clients come and see us about what we do, as they are less afraid to do so.”

Coun John Pan­tall, ex­ec­u­tive mem­ber for health, said: “We strongly en­cour­age Stock­port busi­nesses both small and large to be­come De­men­tia Friends. The ben­e­fits to all are wide-rang­ing.”
