Strath decides who gets money

Residents vote for local worthy causes

- Lynn Duke

Strath residents decided how a pot of grant money was spent at the weekend when they voted for their favourite local groups in the latest round of Strathearn and Strathallan Decides.

The Strathearn and Strathallan Action Partnership invited locals to have their say in how funding should be spent in their communities, known as participatory budgeting, with the criteria that the money should be used for community-led projects that reduce inequalities.

Perth and Kinross Council and the Scottish Government contributed 50% each to the fund and local groups were able to apply for up to £1500.

The decision on Strathearn projects was made at the Better Place to Live Fair in Crieff on Saturday, where those applying had set out their stalls and voters could visit each one and chat to the groups about what they wanted the funding for.

In Auchterarder, the format for Strathallan Decides was slightly different with residents hearing presentations from each group and discussing the merits of each over coffee and cake in the Aytoun Hall afterwards.

Those successful in their bid in the Strathearn area were: Brass Central Strathearn; Comrie Youth Project; Perth Autism Support ; Crieff Stroke Support Group; Friends of MacRosty Park; Crieff Community Garden; All Ability Cycling Crieff; Remake Scotland; Logos Strathearn Youth Project and Strathearn Building Bridges. Crieff Stroke Support Group (Positive Solutions) received the most votes.

Strathallan Decides awards went to Defibrillator Installation in Dunning; Aberuthven Community Recreation Project; Auchterarder Town Bus; Perth Autism Support Outreach and the Additional Support Needs Boccia Club.
