Firefighters needed

-

A call has been issued in an attempt to recruit more retained firefighters.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is inviting applications for posts in Auchterarder, Crieff and Comrie. Anyone interested must be aged 18 years or older, have a good level of physical fitness and meet the criteria in terms of standard of vision and colour perception.

Retained firefighters should live or work around five to eight minutes from the Fire station they are applying for. Successful applicants will be called upon to attend the same wide range of emergency service as fulltimers, including fires, floods, road traffic accidents, chemical spills and more. They can be instructed to promote fire safety messages, give fire safety advice to schools and other organisations as well as carrying out free home fire risk assessments in their communities.

They are paid an annual fee plus additional payments for every incident attended and time spent on training nights, community engagement and courses. See www. firescotland.gov.uk or www.myjobscotland.gov.uk.
