At­tempted mur­der charge

A 29-year-old man ap­peared in pri­vate at Perth Sher­iff Court on Mon­day af­ter­noon on a se­ries of charges, in­clud­ing one of at­tempted mur­der.

Stephen Ber­tie faced a to­tal of seven charges, three in­volv­ing al­leged knife at­tacks.

The ac­cused, of Syd­ney Cres­cent, Auchter­arder, had his case continued for fur­ther in­quiries and was re­manded in cus­tody mean­time.

It is al­leged that on Au­gust 25, at a neigh­bour’s house at 18 Syd­ney Cres­cent, he as­saulted James Irvine by strik­ing him on the head and body with a blade, to his se­vere injury, to the dan­ger of his life - and at­tempted to mur­der him.

He is also al­leged to have struck Mar­ion Irvine on the hand with the knife, to her injury and dis­fig­ure­ment, and then struck Ste­wart Hen­der­son on the body with the weapon, also to his injury and dis­fig­ure­ment.

A fourth charge al­leges that he stole a mo­bile phone and a bot­tle of al­co­hol be­fore spit­ting on Sgt Ian Len­nox’s face at Perth po­lice head­quar­ters, again on Au­gust 25.

It is also claimed that he re­sisted ar­rest by three of­fi­cers in Syd­ney Cres­cent.

A fi­nal charge al­leges that he shouted and swore at the house, made vi­o­lent threats and be­haved in a threat­en­ing and ag­gres­sive man­ner.
