Soroptimists International, Crieff

Strathearn Herald - - CLUB NEWS -

Soroptimists from all over the UK are working to establish the public’s knowledge of Human Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery. From October 1 to 7, 2017, Soroptimists from S I Crieff, Scotland North, as part of their mission to inspire action and transform the lives of women and girls world-wide are encouraging members of the public to complete the UK wide survey undertaken by the Soroptimist United Kingdom Programme Action Committee (UKPAC). Working with the UK Modern Slavery Training Delivery Group, which is part of the Government’s strategy to combat trafficking and slavery, the intention is to find out the extent of public knowledge of Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery. The results will help to inform and direct their work. The on-line version of the survey is accessedvey and it is hoped that a wide range of individuals will give a few minutes of their time to log in and complete the survey. Soroptimist Janice Wilson said: “In 2016, there were 3805 referrals of potential victims of human trafficking in the UK - 150 from Scotland. It is an evil crime and difficult to detect, but that does not mean that the public should be unaware that men, women, boys and girls are being bought and sold as commodities,

treated with cruelty and denied their freedom.”
