Strathearn Herald - - MEMORY LANE -

In these days when one sits down to write an editorial retrospect, his thoughts of all other national things - great and important in their own way, and in normal times - are dwarfed by those on the great struggle of ideals which is now being fought to a finish on two continents, and in which nearly all the civilised nations of the earth are engaged on one side or the other.

At the outset of the year now on its deathbed, one was tempted to hope, and with some cause, that 1917 would see the triumph of the cause of the Entente Powers, and the conclusion of a peace which would forever shatter the arrogance of Prussian militarism.
