April •An exhibition at Comrie Library by Strath-based artist Helen McCrorie used films and archives to explore memories, inspired by those who lost family photographs in the Comrie floods. The showcase was part of the week-long Platform festival.
• Auchterarder’s Sophie Maher won gold at the British Show Pony Society’s spring show. The 12-year-old qualified to compete at the Burghley Horse Trials in Lincolnshire.
•Eight intrepid teams of oarsmen and women took part in the 2017 Great Loch Earn Boat Race organised by Crieff Round Table. The winners of the Loch Earn Quaich were the Austrian Downhill Squad.
May •A priceless collection of rare books is to stay in the Strath thanks to a remarkably generous donation. The Library of Innerpeffray has received, over the past three years, several hundred volumes of classic Scottish first editions dating back to the 16th century – adding to the fantastic collection already in the library.
• First Minister Nicola Sturgeon visited Auchterarder on the general election campaign trail with Ochil and South Perthshire constituency candidate Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh.
•Crieff teenager Siusaidh Johnston raised £2000 for Bertie Bus at a bingo tea night in the town’s Royal British Legion Scotland clubrooms.
June • Strath man John McDonald scooped a silver award at the worldfamous Chelsea Flower Show. John was competing in a category titled ‘Destination Unknown’ in the floral design area of the prestigious show.
•The life and gallantry of Comrie war hero John Manson Craig was recognised in the village as crowds gathered to watch the unveiling of a stone at the war memorial.
•Two prominent Crieff residents were recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. Highland Gathering stalwart Stevie Ryder and farmer Jim McLaren were rewarded with MBEs for work in their respective fields.
•A major police investigation got under way after robbers escaped with thousands of pounds worth of watches in a raid at the Gleneagles Hotel. Three armed men walked into the Mappin and Webb jewellery outlet at the fivestar resort and carried out the robbery in front of shocked staff and guests.
