LG OLED65E7V

- Price £4999 / stuff.tv/oled65e7v

Being the most exciting thing to happen to TV before the Crystal Maze revival was announced, LG’S OLEDS come with quite a pedigree. This E7 sits in the middle of the line-up and has the same panel and pictureprocessing features as LG’S other tellies.

1 Perfect skinny

While this 65in E7 isn’t quite as thin as the 2.57mm Wallpaper OLED, it still cuts an amazingly slimline figure. The screen is surrounded by a thin black frame and the whole thing floats on a glass edge. Impressively, it’s also attached to a built-in Dolby Atmos-capable soundbar that should save you having to spend extra on superior audio for your telly.

2 All things bright and beautiful

From 4K HDR to standard def, the E7 is a trusty purveyor of top-notch TV. Thanks to a 25% increase in peak brightness and a boost in detail from last year’s sets, everything stands out more, especially when pitched against a dark background with HDR enabled. Compared to Sony’s A1, however, the image isn’t quite as dynamic, or as deft with motion processing.

3 Comfort in sound

By giving the E7 a dedicated soundbar, LG has made its delivery much more convincing than that of many flatscreen TVS. It’s a spacious, clear and solid sound. That said, we wouldn’t get too carried away by the Dolby Atmos badge – Atmos is supposed to set a new standard for room-filling audio, but the E7’s setup is no alternative to a proper surround-sound package.

4 House of cards

The E7 is underpinned by LG’S webos 3.5 operating system. As the ‘.5’ might suggest, this isn’t a huge change from last year’s version, but that’s no great issue given that it’s a clear and friendly system. Sources, smart services and features all exist as colourful cards that can be rearranged, added and deleted, while navigation is 40% faster than before.

Screen 65in 3840x2160 OLED with HDR OS webos 3.5 Connectivity HDMI (x4), optical out, Ethernet, Wi-fi Dimensions 877x1461x62mm, 21.2 kg Stuff says ★★★★★ LG hits the sweet spot, especially if you don’t have a soundbar… but the Sony’s picture is just a bit better

?? ?? The E7 is futureproofed to the hilt and supports all the major formats to have been announced, from HDR10 to Hybridlog Gamma. Even standard-def stuff comes out passable, with an impressive clarity and control considering the amount of upscaling going on.
