I want to choose a pattern I won’t get bored of and which won’t go out of style in the next year. What should I be looking for?

I don’t think patterns do go easily out of fashion – look at florals, palms, plaids, stripes, toiles and Ikats, which have been around for a long time. Look for things you like. If you feel good about it, then that’s your personal style that belongs to you and isn’t just ‘on trend’.
