BASKET CASE

Try a display of basketware on the wall. Go for a variety of sizes, weaves and colours to add visual interest, keeping them fairly shallow. Start with the largest basket, working outwards. For baskets without a handle, create hanging loops of fishing wire.

HALF AND HALF

To add colour to a room without committing to a full-on scheme, try a half-and-half paint treatment. Start with white (or pale) walls, then paint the bottom third of the room, leaving the top two thirds unpainted. A darker colour at the bottom will make a room feel taller.

BRICK BY BRICK

Give rooms a rustic vibe by going for exposed brickwork walls. It’s quite a bold look, so is best limited to just one wall or a small section, such as a chimney breast or inside an alcove, with white plaster on the adjacent walls. If you don’t have original brickwork to expose, recreate the look using brick slips.
