New cut-price deal for Sergio
SERGIO AGUERO is in line for a new one-year contract at Manchester City – but with a big salary drop.
The Argentine, 32, is the highest earner at The Etihad on around £250,000 per week.
But while keen to extend his stay beyond June, when his current deal ends, he will not get anything like those wages.
City are likely to offer the stirker half that amount, plus bonuses based on appearances.
Aguero, a £38million signing from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and the club’s all-time top scorer with 256 goals, has spent much of the last two seasons out injured.
Those fitness issues mean the City hierarchy are wary of giving him anything longer than a year’s contract.
Aguero, though, knows he will be in big demand next summer as a free transfer. Both Paris Saint-germain and Barcelona are monitoring developments.
